Scholastic Bowl
The Scholastic Bowl season is approximately four months in length. The season begins in early January and ends with state competition in early April. Scholastic Bowl is an academically based team competition that test participants knowledge of current events, fine arts, geography, language, literature, popular culture, music, science, social studies, and sports. Participants are not expected to be “experts” in all of the categories as it is a team activity. The team is open to students in grades sixth through eighth. A total of ten to fifteen students are selected for the team. The coach considers the following areas in the selection process: student performance on scholastic bowl aptitude tests; teacher interviews; student enthusiasm and flexibility; responsibility and dependability; attitude; academic and behavioral performance; and commitment and dedication to the activity. The team is divided into Junior Varsity and Varsity. The season consists of approximately eight meets. The meets consists of a Junior Varsity and a Varsity game. Participants purchase sweatshirts to wear to competition. Students are subject to both the Academic and Conduct Eligibility.
