SHABBONA MIDDLE SCHOOL : Choir

The Swing Choir is an audition based group of 7th and 8th grade choir members. Swing Choir meets for an hour a week, either before or after school. Rehearsals begin in September and continue through the school year. The Swing Choir performs 7-10 times per year. Students who have an interest in the Swing Choir should see the choir director (Mr. Varness).

Music Solo and Ensemble Contest
The Music Solo and Ensemble Contest is conducted in March or early April. This is a voluntary contest for music students wishing to broaden their knowledge of solo / ensemble literature and showcase their talents. Rehearsals typically begin in January, and are scheduled with the student’s director. Students selected to participate by their directors are responsible for making arrangements to have their own accompanist. Students who have an interest in Solo and Ensemble Contest should see the Choir or Band Director.

Music Organizational Contest
The Music Organizational Contest is conducted the end of April or early May. Participation in the Music Organizational Contest is required of all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade choir members and all 7th and 8th grade band members. Practices typically begin in February.
