Student Council extends through the entire school year. Student Council elections are conducted in early September. Student Council consist of the following positions: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and two Class Representatives per grade level. The office of President is responsible for conducting Council meetings and presenting proposals to the building Principal. The vice-president conducts meetings and presents proposals in the Presidents absence. The Secretary is the official record keeper and prepares and reads the minutes for the last meeting. The treasurer reports on the state of finances at each meeting. Class representatives serve as a liaison between the class and the Student Council. The position of President is held by an eighth grade student. The vice-president position is held by a seventh grade student. The Secretary and Treasurer positions are held by seventh or eighth grade students. The Class Representatives represent his or her grade level. Students electing to run for one of the offices must be eligible to do so; secure 15 student signatures on the nominating petition; and prepare a candidates speech to be videotaped and shown to the student body. Each student completes a ballot and the totals are tallied. All candidates are gathered together and informed of the outcome before a public announcement is made. In addition to the Student Council members, each homeroom nominates one person to represent them and share input with the elected class representative. Homeroom representatives do not attend Student Council meetings, but may meet with the sponsor as needed. Student Council typically meets after school twice a month (additional meetings are added as necessary) with additional school activities throughout the school year. In the past Student Council has sponsored some of the following activities: dance, Spirit Week, assembly, and a food and clothing drive. The new Council with the input of the student body, will determine the activities for the year. Students are subject to Conduct Eligibility. |
